Minister of Labor Martin Kocher (ÖVP) is in favor of a new limit for the tax exemption of overtime. Currently, a maximum of ten overtime premiums per month are tax-free at 50 percent or a maximum of 86 euros.
“This limit has not been adjusted for more than ten years and is no longer up to date,” said Kocher in the “Oberösterreichische Nachrichten” (weekend edition).
“Approach worth supporting”
“That would be a sign, because many people are currently working and have to work a lot of overtime,” said Kocher. “The normal case should not be a lot of overtime, but a lot of people to be hired. But because there is a shortage of staff, this is a legitimate approach and one that deserves support.”
Recently, representatives of the business community and the Salzburg governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) spoke out in favor of tax relief for overtime.
