Former Chancellor Christian Kern’s official support for Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil in the race for the SPÖ party presidency has caused quite a stir on social networks. Especially the left wing of the comrades, which especially forces the mayor of Traiskirchen, Andreas Babler, openly makes an anti-Kern mood.
Preventing black and blue is Kern’s “main concern” and Doskozil is the one who can succeed: “If most other SPÖ members see it that way, he will cross the finish line first.” Fact is: Kern still has a lot to do persuasion. Because he has quite a strong headwind within the SPÖ.
“Minister of Energy Von Blau-Rot?”
For example, Paul Schuierer-Aigner openly expresses his dissatisfaction with Kern’s support. “May the core then be energy minister from the blue and red under Vice Chancellor Doskozil?” he asks cynically on Twitter.
Doskozil’s asylum policy is a thorn in the side of Babler’s fans
It should be mentioned: According to the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”, Schuierer-Aigner re-joined the SPÖ in the course of the red main search, in between he was press spokesman for the former Deputy Governor of Tyrol Ingrid Felipe (Greens). Now he openly admits to being a Babler sympathizer and regularly criticizes Doskozil for it – especially for his strict asylum policy.
“A lot of male ego straight”
After Kern’s “outing”, the political scientist and author Natascha Strobl also got in touch. Strobl is president of the association “Let’s do something”, which according to “Kurier” manages the website and finances for Babler’s candidacy. “Some don’t seem to get it, but this member survey isn’t about men recommending men and men promising jobs to other men. It’s a bit too much male ego right now,” the activist grumbled on Twitter.
“This is not a program”
Former journalist Sylvia Steinitz also has a bad head about Kern’s decision. “,I’ve been hearing this since 2006. That’s not a program. More content, less strategy. Then it will also work with the votes,” writes the PR adviser, now also a member of the SPÖ.
‘Apparently Kern no longer has visions’
“I find it disappointing that Kern is behind Doskozil. Apparently, he no longer has visions either. It cannot be the aim of one party to prevent something. You must formulate and pursue your own goals and visions. I don’t see anything with Doskozil here,” the lawyer and feminist Annika Hofmann criticized Kern and Doskozil in unison on Twitter.
Rosemarie Hofstätter suggests the same: “I would have expected him to support the PRW after leaving chaos in their wake. The fact that he simply accepted Doskozil’s internal and public attacks for years has finally disqualified him.”
Threatened to leave the party
Incidentally, some from the Babler environment are openly threatening to leave the party if Doskozil becomes the new SPÖ boss (see Gabriele Fritz’s tweet below).
Kern-Doskosil-Babler? “would never work”
Although Kern also praised Babler in his Facbebook posting and would like to include him in the team if Doskozil wins, the Babler sympathizers do not believe in such cooperation. “That would never work,” writes Rinaldo Mogyorosy on Twitter.
Rendi-Wagner does not want to comment on Kern’s performance
In a post on his Facebook page, former chancellor Christian Kern writes that the SPÖ has the best chance of preventing Black and Blue with Doskozil. Kern will be a guest on his “Friendship Tour” in Neudörfl on Thursday. Incumbent Pamela Rendi-Wagner declined to comment on Kern’s “outing”.
