At least 55 people have drowned off the coast of Libya. A boat with 60 women, men and children on board was shipwrecked on Tuesday. The Libyan coastguard has rescued five people, reports the UN agency for migration (IOM).
The boat departed east of the capital Tripoli and was carrying migrants to Europe when it capsized, the United Nations reported Wednesday.
At the moment, many people seeking protection dare to make the dangerous crossing to Europe again in often unseaworthy boats. People are dying again and again in the Mediterranean.
Dozens of people are also killed in Tunisia
Dozens of people have also drowned in Libya’s neighboring Tunisia in recent days. Local media reported that a mortuary in the coastal town of Sfax was completely overcrowded after several boating accidents.
