As if it wasn’t difficult enough for our farmers, an EU regulation puts the brakes on farmers who depend on green electricity. In concrete terms, this means that farmers are no longer allowed to sell their eggs as free-range eggs if there are also solar panels on the chicken pasture. We show how Austria is defending itself now – and how great the chance of success is.
Once again, the EU is laying an egg on farmers by diverting well-intentioned regulations to the point of absurdity. The corresponding EU market regulation for eggs prescribes a dual-use ban on free-range areas of happy hens. In concrete terms, this means that if a photovoltaic installation is installed there, the eggs may no longer be sold as free-range eggs, even if the chickens live outside.
