The president of the General Assemblies of Bizkaia hopes that the Spanish government will rectify and cancel its announcement of “pure propaganda and ignorance” about the symbolism of the Assemblies.
The President of the General Assemblies of Bizkaia, Ana Otaduthis afternoon expressed its “surprise and bewilderment” at today’s announcement by the central government to declare the Casa de Juntas de Gernika a “place of remembrance” in memory of the bombings suffered by the civilian population of the Biscay municipality 86 years ago by the German Condor Legion, a fact communicated after being published this Thursday in the Staatscourant (BOE).
Apparently the parliament of Bizkaia would be called the first “place of memory” granted by the central government on the basis of the Law of Democratic Remembrance, something done with the “total ignorance” of the presidency of the General Assemblies, implying “a lack of respect and contempt for the General Assemblies of Bizkaia, the institution that houses the parliament of Bizkaia,” said Otadui.
Through a statement, the chairman of the boards of directors regretted having to learn about this matter through the media after its publication in the BOE, when Minister Bolaños himself attended the meeting yesterday afternoon. Gernika Assembly House.
“I hope that the Spanish government rectifies and cancels its announcement of pure propaganda and ignorance of the symbolism and the meaning that the General Assemblies, their parliamentary headquarters and the tree that have shelters for the Biscayan people,” said Otadui.
