Less than a week after the state elections: leadership dispute in the SPÖ is also delaying coalition negotiations in Salzburg.
Turnaround in Salzburg coalition poker. On Thursday there were confidential talks between top local politicians in the fight for a new state government. As one hears from relatives of regional head Wilfried Haslauer, it should be about a stable and also Solomonic solution for Salzburg – a variant that no one had seen before on the screen: the People’s Party together with the FPÖ and SPÖ! That would be a real Haslauer coup.
While the PVV seems to befriending this coalition, the internal turmoil of the domestic SPÖ is once again apparent. Because within the red ranks there is resistance to the coalition variant.
However, according to information from “Krone”, there should be influential forces in favor of the step in the tri-party coalition. Even the current SPÖ leader, David Egger, could befriend the FPÖ variant in the coalition. It comes as a surprise that the Social Democrats do not enter into a coalition with the FPÖ. Because they kept all variants open before the elections and many comrades are supporters of Hans-Peter Doskozil, who was in the government of Burgenland with the Freedom Party before winning an absolute majority.
The Executive Committee should discuss further steps
Now a strong word from the Chairman of the Workers’ Chamber and Deputy Chairman of the SPÖ Peter Eder would be needed to lead the comrades in the government in an “Alliance for Salzburg”. What is completely open: what happens if the tripartite coalition does not come? Apparently Haslauer does not want the coalition with the FPÖ alone, which is why he tried the three-way variant. Crown Prince Stefan Schnöll should also not be available for an ÖVP-FPÖ coalition.
The SPÖ would probably no longer be an option if they reject the current proposal. It would then come into opposition with the strong communists. On Friday, the decision on the partner of the coalition talks should have been taken in the ÖVP presidium. Now there are more meetings.
