A mock government without a people, an aloof elite – FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl settles accounts with Brussels in a heated speech at the Conservative Congress in Hungary. The EU Commission, headed by Ms von der Leyen, is “an organization without legitimacy that seeks to direct and control citizens”. Kickl walks on a delicate tightrope.
The two-day Conservative Political Action Conference has been meeting in Budapest since Thursday. Organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF), the CPAC now takes place twice a year. In his opening speech on Friday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Hungary is an “incubator” where the conservative politics of the future are put to the test.
Orbán spoke, among other things, of a ‘virus’ developed in the progressive-liberal laboratory that devours nations and strikes the Western world to the heart. If the nations fall apart, the possibility of a free life is lost, the prime minister stressed.
The entrance to the CPAC conference is marked as a “No Woke Zone”:
Then Herbert Kickl came on the scene – here are some quotes from the FPÖ leader:
- „Today we find ourselves in a Union that no longer accepts sovereign fatherlands and does not want, can and should not be a fatherland for anyone. But us not be citizens of an EU government.“
- „The government in Brussels is a mock government without people. It is an aloof elite that has long since stopped caring about the citizens of European fatherlands. The The EU Commission, headed by Ms von der Leyen, likes to be a self-proclaimed elite. She never had to answer to people. Like many other international organizations without any legitimacy, the EU tries to direct and control citizens.“
- The purpose of „The elite“ be egalitarianism. „The more globalism spreads, the more everything degenerates into a mush.“
- That’s not the first time „Patriots from all over the world“ coming together in Hungary is no coincidence. Hungary is a haven of national self-determination and resistance to globalist entry from Brussels. And Hungary also fights against mass immigration, says the FPÖ leader.
- „I therefore say: the EU must learn from Hungary. But because that is not to be expected, the other Member States should learn from Hungary. I am in favor of Austria also becoming a fortress. We need many fortresses in Europe.“
- „We want to protect our values and our traditions and we are readytime to defend them against immigrants from distant cultures who don’t know these values - and who also don’t want to adapt to us and our values.“
Herbert Kickl walks on a delicate tightrope. With radical opposition politics he tries to maximize the votes of the FPÖ. At the same time, he wants to lead his party to government responsibility. This is evident from the government participation in Lower Austria and the coalition negotiations in Salzburg after the successful state elections for the Blue Party.
“Discover free space, strategically smart”
As a former interior minister, Kickl of course knows “that you have to take responsibility in government”, political analyst Peter Plaikner explains in an interview with the “Krone”. A tougher tone is expected from an opposition leader, but the government shares the responsibility. “Kickl explores every free space. That is strategically very smart.”
That’s what happened on Friday: for while he spoke of the “sham government” and “elites” for the doctrine and called for “resistance” against “immigrants from distant cultures” before the right-wing conference in Budapest, Kickl dutifully sat before the right-wing conference in Budapest’s historic parliamentary meeting room and took part in a Nazi memorial event.
Anti-democratic?
For such speeches, Kickl and his party were also criticized by publicist Michel Friedman as “anti-democrats” who would turn people against each other. Kickl shook his head as he pondered these statements. The blue party leader is usually unimpressed by criticism. So far, the polls have shown him right.
In a current survey by opinion researcher Christoph Haselmayer (IFDD) on behalf of the “BVZ”, the FPÖ comes out at 27 percent, the ÖVP at 24 percent, the SPÖ in third place with 22 percent.
