The next elections to the European Parliament will take place from 6 to 9 June 2024, the ambassadors of the EU states agreed in Brussels on Wednesday.
According to the current Presidency, Sweden, the date has yet to be formally confirmed. Incidentally, 2024 will be a super-election year as numerous crucial ballots take place – including the National Council elections in Austria.
EU Commissioner Hahn retires
After the new election of the EU parliament, the cards are also being shuffled again in the EU commission. It will also likely lead to the resignation of the currently longest-serving commissioner. Because Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn (ÖVP) has indicated that he will no longer pursue a fourth term.
