WKÖ President Harald Mahrer acted correctly against Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler. But the Green politician is now striking back. All you ever hear from Mahrer is “No, no, no.”
Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) had to listen a lot over the weekend. WKÖ President Harald Mahrer accused her of “populism” and “greenflation” in several interviews. Gewessler defended her policy on Monday. She called on Mahrer to “get involved”. Much more you just hear “No, no, no”.
Gewessler: Independence from Putin through energy transition
Gewessler emphasized that the forced phase-out of fossil fuels would lead to greater independence. Then Russian President Vladimir Putin would no longer be able to determine how expensive heating and energy costs would be in Austria. Mahrer called on them to help think about how the Chamber of Commerce could help Austrian companies with this.
Gewessler also made it clear that the proposals for further CO2 reductions that emerged last week, such as a speed limit of 90 km/h on country roads and a car-free day in larger cities, are not their ‘secret plan’, but the transparent recommendations of the Citizens’ Council for Climate Protection. The minister did not say to what extent she would follow these recommendations. In any case, she welcomes discussions.
Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig (ÖVP) did not want to evaluate the criticism of the joint press conference with Gewessler. He is “not a commentator”, but wants to work through the government program.
