Salzburg Zoo has new eye-catchers: the two snow leopard babies, born at the beginning of April, have been exploring the outdoor enclosure for a few days – under the strict supervision of mother Malou. The kittens’ curiosity quickly overcame initial skepticism and now they are “conquering” their world in Hellbrunn. For four-year-old Malou it is the first offspring, for ten-year-old hangover Sayan, on the other hand, it is already routine, he has become a father for the third time.

Kittens still need a lot of sleep
According to Sabine Grebner, director of the zoo, the character differences between the two young snow leopards are now very clear. “One of the young animals is much more inquisitive, while the other is much more cautious and reserved.” With a bit of luck, visitors will now also have the chance to see the two play and discover. “However, they will certainly still sleep a lot and retreat inland. But the odds are certainly good in the morning,” said Grebner.
The two cats don’t have names yet. “We received a lot of suggestions via social media. Now as a team we will look for the best names together and we will enter the second round. The two young animals can then ‘choose themselves’ from the two remaining suggestions,” Grebner announced.
