PNV and PSE-EE agree to republish the pact for governance in town halls and councils

Date:

The jeltzales and socialists have reached an agreement with the aim of “guaranteeing the governability and stability of the institutions, out of respect for the plurality” that produced Sunday’s results.

He And He PSE-EE agreed this Friday, five days after the 28M, reissue the coalition pact to govern in local and regional institutions after the results of last Sunday’s elections.

In a one-page statement, both formations stress that they believe it is necessary to “look for similarities that support the governance and stability of the institutions”, and to do so “with respect to” the multitude of Basque society, who have left with their vote “a diverse and fragmented electoral map in Euskadi”.

Jeltzales and socialists argue “a balance with very satisfactory” of their joint journey (since 2015), and they believe that the sum of both is the “best” to cope with the current “complex situation” and ensure the stability mentioned above. So, “whenever possible” , they agree “to facilitate the formation of coalition governments across the councils and town halls.

The pact aims to “ensure governance” with “clear foundations” that support the “challenges” of Basque society, which he calls “the protection of public services, the fight against inequality, the promotion of progress and social justice”, in addition to meeting the “climate, demographic and economic challenge”. In addition, they are committed to “making progress in strengthening municipal policies” and to provide local institutions with “sufficient funding that will enable them to actively contribute to the achievement of these objectives”.

The document makes no mention of the need for third-party support when the power with the most votes is another. This is the case of Vitoria-Gasteiz or the Gipuzkoa Provincial Councilwhere PNV and PSE-EE would need the votes of the PP to force themselves on EH Bildu.

As for this last case, the burukide and head of innovation of the PNV, Xabier Barandiaranhas reiterated that the jeltzales are “not going to negotiate with PP”, before the leader’s announcement popular Mikel Lezama that in exchange for his support they will set up a “red line” entering the regional government. “In this scenario, it is very clear that the deputy general of Gipuzkoa will be Maddalen Iriarte,” he concluded.

Barandiaran: ‘If the PP draws a red line, Iriarte will become deputy general, the PNV will not negotiate with the PP’
