“Infamy” – After Shitstorm: Svazek Deactivates Twitter Account

Date:

Salzburg’s designated deputy governor, FPÖ chairman Marlene Svazek, has deactivated her Twitter account for “30 days”. The reason for this was a shit storm. Users accused her of threatening journalists in a post.

In her controversial posting, the politician had responded to reports about her future FPÖ government colleague Christian Pewny, who was the victim of serious fraud in 2020.

“Svazek does not regret the tweet”
After heavy criticism, Svazek deactivated her Twitter account. “Because of the baseness with which she and the party are currently being received in comments,” says her spokesperson Dom Kamper. However, Svazek does not regret the tweet and stands by her statement.

Specifically, the FPÖ boss in Salzburg had posted: “If that is the case, that private life is now also a public good and is unabashedly written, then I assume that it will also affect every journalist and no one has a problem with it , if your own (mis)conduct is made public.”

Pewny, 56, a former member of parliament and currently mayor of Radstadt, is said to have lost around 600,000 euros in a “love scam” fraud in 2020. With this scam, the perpetrators trick their victims into believing they are in love, but then often rob them of a lot of money.

Svazek was also criticized for the FPÖ “herd premium” for home childcare
Svazek also received a lot of criticism for her proposal to promote childcare at home. The FPÖ in Upper Austria introduced the model in 2019: Families who take care of their child at home until the compulsory kindergarten year receive an allowance of 900 euros per year.

In black and blue Lower Austria, a working group must investigate the support. In Salzburg, Svazek wants a similar model. Critics see this as a “herd premium” that ultimately increases women’s poverty in old age. The FPÖ speaks of “freedom of choice” for women.
