The government has made agreements about 120 primary care units (PVE) in 2025. There are currently 40 such medical centers. The benefits for patients and staff include extended opening hours and regulated holiday replacement, it said.
In addition, the cooperation of various health professions was mentioned, in addition to doctors, for example, nursing or physiotherapy. A primary care (PVE) can, for example, be organized as a group practice, outpatient clinic or association and is intended to relieve hospitals in outpatient care for patients. The government wants to use the centers to strengthen the established sector. In March, 121 were mentioned as destinations throughout Austria, now there is talk of 120.

PVE pure children also follows, which is new in the Primary Care Act bill. This should counteract the shortage in this field. Anyone who already has an elective practice is treated in the same way as panelists in the selection process. Doctors must own more than 50 percent of the company’s capital and other health professions must be given equal rights in the future.
To speed up the process, the application and selection process is now shortened. For example, there is no needs assessment for non-profit outpatient clinics that wish to operate a PVE.
