Most government politicians and NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger benefit from the internal SPÖ quarrels. This is reflected in the current APA/OGM confidence index. Meanwhile, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen remains the undisputed leader. The new SPÖ chairman Andreas Babler has to roll onto the field from one of the middle positions in the battle for voter confidence.
NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger (-3 after -9 in April) benefits the most, followed by Groenenclub president Sigrid Maurer (-26 after -31), ÖVP education minister Martin Polaschek (-23 after -28), ÖVP Club boss August Wöginger (-29 after -33).
The current APA/OGM trust index:
Sobotka continues to form the rearguard
Also ÖVP National Council Chairman Wolfgang Sobotka (-51 to -55, still at the bottom of the ranking), ÖVP Chancellor Karl Nehammer (-22 to -25), ÖVP Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (-27 to -30), Minister of Green Health Johannes Rauch (-4 to -7), Environment Minister of the Greens Leonore Gewessler (-24 to -27) and FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl (-43 to -46) may rise somewhat – even if they all remain the lose confidence.
Raab and Kocher with a small flaw
Only for Media Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) and Minister of Labor Martin Kocher (ÖVP) have values deteriorated somewhat since April. Green leader Werner Kogler took a point (from -19 to now -18).
Rely on values in the shadow of the SPÖ crisis
Otherwise, the focus of recent weeks on the SPÖ is probably partly responsible for the confidence values of almost all other politicians rising by three to six points since April. This is probably because the conflicts and disputes took place more within the social democrats than between the parties, the pollster suspected.
Babler gets in just before Rendi-Wagner
The new SPÖ boss Andreas Babler reached an index value of minus 14 when he joined. 29 percent trusted him, 43 percent did not and the rest did not know him well enough. The mayor of Traiskirchner thus achieves slightly more confidence among the entire electorate than his predecessor, whose balance was minus 18 points in April.
The new SPÖ leader was warmly welcomed by his own voters
In his own SPÖ voters, Andres Babler is welcomed with 79 percent in favor and 9 percent against. According to Bachmayr, the red voters should have buried the hatchet and are currently more behind Babler than the divided SP camps and the series of failures surrounding the vote would suggest.
With the trust index, OGM compares the balance between trust and mistrust and calculates a balance. In the current study, 811 online interviews were conducted between June 12 and June 14, 2023 with a representative selection of eligible voters.
