The protagonist in the so-called shredder case has left the chancellery. However, he continues to work for the government – now in the Ministry of Defense. The man had five hard drives destroyed under a false name.
As a reminder, the chancellor’s aide responsible for Kurz’s social media presence had five hard drives destroyed under a false name and without payment in 2019, shortly after the Ibiza video became known. According to media reports, the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA) was investigating until the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office took over and investigations were completely halted some time later.
According to new findings in the Ibiza Commission of Inquiry, SPÖ and NEOS reapplied in March 2021, but these investigations were also stopped because no criminal behavior was found. The protagonist of the so-called shredder case, Arno M., had also testified in the investigative committee. He and another employee had emphasized that destroying the hard drives due to sensitive information was a “common” and “normal” process. According to the public prosecutor’s office, Arno M. has not been found guilty of any criminal offense.
Was in office until June
As the “Kleine Zeitung” reported online, Arno M. was still an employee of Chancellor Karl Nehammer and State Secretary for Youth Affairs Claudia Plakolm (both ÖVP). As of June 1, he is said to have transferred to the Ministry of Defense and started working there in the sports and marketing department.
