Itxaso believes that the ministry can study the arrival of more aid from European funds to the Basque Country

Date:

Currently, there are approved or ongoing energy reform actions for more than 15,600 homes in the Basque Country. The Basque government will distribute more than 130 million euros for this; however, many people have complained of being left without help.

Many property managers are outraged that the Department of Housing has just said that next-generation funds for energy renovation of buildings and homes have dried up in an instant. In this sense, the Spanish government’s delegate to Euskadi, Denis Itxaso, stressed in an interview in Euskadi Irratia that demand was “very high”, higher than supply, and he has suggested that “most likely” is now the Department asks the national government for more money. However, he has emphasized that it will be the corresponding ministry that decides to provide more aid if there is money to do so.

In this sense, he referred to the management of the Basque Government, since these funds were distributed more quickly than at least among the applicants. “I applaud the caution and speed with which the Department of Housing has been distributing these items for years,” he said.

With regard to European aid, Itxaso has emphasized that the Spanish government had already reached an agreement with Europe on its distribution. For example, he explained that 50% of the amount corresponding to Euskadi will be managed by the Basque government and the rest by the ministries. In this way, the representative of the Spanish government has responded to the Minister of the Economy, Pedro Azpiazu, who complained about the management of the Next Generation funds.

Regarding the delays experienced by the Irun-Brinkola commuter rail service in recent times, users are constantly complaining that the works pose a structural problem beyond specific ones. Given this, Itxaso says it is “normal” that there are “problems” arising from the works. However, he stressed the need for it and stressed that thanks to them the start of a metropolitan line such as the Donostia-Baiona line will be allowed.

In terms of powers, the transfer of the rail service from Cercanías did not go through, despite the fact that negotiations were announced last autumn that they were in the final stages. In this case, Itxaso explained that most of the details have been agreed, but the financial amount has yet to be determined. “The government has set one figure, the government another. So even if there is political will, there is discussion and I think that will be agreed in the next legislature as long as the PSOE maintains the government. In fact, I believe not that the government with PP and VOX would accept that.”
