Sufficient, that is the modest figure that the population gives to the federal government for its environmental and climate policy. And furthermore, the annual report is not excellent.
The federal government doesn’t have to do detention, but they have to at least go to summer school. Because their performance in environmental and climate protection is only assessed by the population as satisfactory. The market research institute Linz interviewed 1000 people on behalf of oecolution austria – an initiative for sustainable location development.
A third even gives an unsatisfactory
The “Krone” has received the government’s testimony in advance. The overall rating for climate protection is 3.75, with a third of Austrians even rating the government as unsatisfactory.
Politicians must involve people in climate protection
For a government with green participation, this is not a glorious page, say Elisabeth Zehetner, general manager of oecolution, and David Pfarrhofer, general manager of market. Zehetner says politicians still have a lot of catching up to do, especially when it comes to participation. Climate and environmental policy cannot be made authoritarian over the heads of the people.
For example, the planned, mandatory replacement of heating systems in private households is touching on a very personal area and costing many people tens of thousands of euros. Many will not be able to afford that, Zehetner emphasises. Politicians need to improve here. This is also reflected in the figures: Participation is the subject with the lowest marks, followed by Individual Advantage.
