In the future, the Federal Chancellery will finance trips to Brussels for pupils and students. Up to 250 euros is provided per person, it was announced on Tuesday. The aim of the funding is to strengthen the “European identity” of young people.
The financial resources for 2024 will be increased to 250,000 euros. This is ten times more than the previous funding. “To further strengthen the understanding of Europe, we need to build bridges between the EU institutions and the citizens of the regions. The Federal Chancellery therefore supports young people to visit the EU institutions with a maximum of 250 euros per person,” said Europe Minister Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP) in a broadcast.
Arrival with Nightjet
The trip is planned with the ÖBB Nightjet, the capacities of which will be expanded next year. In Brussels, visits to the European institutions are on the agenda, in particular the EU Parliament, the EU Commission and visits to the House of European History and the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU. The State Chancellery lays down the journeys for three days in a model plan.
Within a year, 1000 students have already booked a package for their EU trip.
