Instruction board met – indictment against Kurz: decision pending

Date:

On Tuesday, the instruction council at the Ministry of Justice met to discuss the cause of false statements to the University committee. Former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz threatens to go to court.

It took a long time to decide whether ex-chancellor Kurz (ÖVP) would be charged with making false statements to the Ibiza U committee. Kurz and his lawyer have been expecting the completion of an indictment for some time. The instruction board, which is called in by the Ministry of Justice in such cases, met on Tuesday. The General Prosecutor’s Office, where the instruction council sits, confirms this to the “Krone”.

Kurz would have to answer in court
The decision goes back to the ministry, from there to the public prosecutor’s office, which prepared a project report months ago. That means: Sebastian Kurz should answer for the first time in court in the foreseeable future. False statements are punishable by three years in prison. Of course, as a blameless person, he wouldn’t understand that.

The investigation was prompted by Kurz’s statement about his role in the appointment of ex-confidant Thomas Schmid as ÖBAG boss. The former ÖVP boss is said to have downplayed his role in filling the supervisory board of the state holding company.

Investigations into studies are still ongoing
The WKStA is also investigating Kurz and nine other people (including Schmid) in connection with embellished studies. These will last for months. Here too, the presumption of innocence applies to all parties involved.
