The instruction board of the Ministry of Justice has no objection to a lawsuit against former ÖVP chancellor Sebastian Kurz. However, legal questions about another person should be cleared up, it said Wednesday. The entire project can therefore not be delivered yet.
This means the decision whether or not to press charges. The technical supervisor and the subordinate departments finally have to clear up the legal questions about another person. “As always, no information can be given about the time horizon,” the Justice Department said.
Investigations not yet completed
The report deals with the allegations of false testimony against former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) in the Ibiza Commission of Inquiry. The rest of the investigations, including surveys and advertisements, are ongoing. The central question is how intensively the former ÖVP boss was involved in the reform of the state holding company ÖBIB into ÖBAG under Turquoise Blue.
When questioned by the Ibiza U committee three years ago, Kurz downplayed his role in the selection of the supervisory board and spoke of normal processes. A spokesman for Kurz was also annoyed on Wednesday: “We would not be surprised in any case if the WKStA had decided to file a report despite 30 exculpatory witness statements. The fact is: the allegations are false and we look forward to the truth finally coming out and the allegations proving to be unfounded in court.”
However, the prosecutor for economic and corruption spoke of possible false statements based on chat histories. In other words: Sebastian Kurz would have to answer for himself in court for the first time. False statements carry a maximum prison sentence of three years, which he does not actually have to serve.
