The state leaders are sounding the alarm: apparently the federal government’s offer in the context of the financial settlement negotiations does not quite live up to what it promises: instead of a subsidy of ten billion euros for the health and care sector over the next five years In the end, there were significantly fewer left, complain the governors of Vienna, Upper Austria, Burgenland and Vorarlberg.
The federal government apparently only wants to inject about 470 million a year. That is the result of a new round of negotiations in Vienna. Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) and Social Affairs Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) announced last week that they are prepared to make an additional ten billion euros available for health and care over five years.
“We looked today at the figures presented by the federal government and if the matter were not so serious, you would have to say that the offer is ridiculous,” Upper Austrian governor Thomas Stelzer complained to the “Krone”. The offer is completely unacceptable and will not be accepted by the “countries”. “With this financing, the care offer cannot be improved,” Stelzer continues.
On the contrary: the governor assumes that the status quo cannot be maintained. “The federal government demands co-financing from the state and municipalities. Since we have no income ourselves, the end result is a minus. We will then have less money than now,” the ÖVP politician lamented.
The heads of state complained about the “federal delaying tactics”. This is a danger to public services, it is unanimously said.
