The political blows about the term ‘normal’ annoy the Austrian population. For example, our research shows that ‘Krone’ readers have different (day-to-day) concerns than the current debate about normality.
The real concerns of Austrians: inflation or health problems (see nine opinions from the nine federal states in the next series of photos):
“Now is the time to be careful”
“Politics must return to a normal discourse. It is now important to be careful,” says psychologist Ronald Newerkla. To take the pressure off the debate and address the disputing parties, he quotes the above suspicion Viktor Frankl with the following quote: “An abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is normal behavior.”
“Normal is what normal people do”
Newerkla puts another sentence by the American psychologist Arthur Janov in the room: “Normal is just what normal people do – and not dig endless holes to climb out.” May everyone get an idea. What is certain is that the Austrians have other concerns than the current debate suggests, says Newerkla.
Also Kogler’s statement in focus
And to Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler, who – as reported – accuses Lower Austrian head of state Johanna Mikl-Leitner of “pre-fascism”: “These and similar terms should be treated more carefully. Because that trivializes the real Nazi atrocities with millions of victims.”
