After a career marked by serious injuries, Giuseppe Rossi announced his final retirement at the age of 36 through a post on Instagram. The former Italian-American striker, who played for Villarreal, Levante and Celta in a long list of teams, he hung up his boots in pride that his physical problems did not prevent him from showing his great talent.
“I retire from this beautiful game”, Pepito Rossi began his long message. “It’s been an unforgettable journey. From running around in kindergarten as a kid with a ball at my feet and having my dad as my coach, to playing at the highest level of football possible, in the best stadiums football has to offer and playing with and against the best players and clubs in the world.”
“My dreams have come true, my life has come true”, Rossi continued. “Negative moments (mostly injuries) have never limited me. My purpose is stronger than any other obstacle I have faced.”
“I never stopped dreaming when things beyond my control got in my way.. I love soccer so much I can’t give up. That’s why I’m writing this with a heavy heart but with a big smile on my face: I’m proud of what I’ve done.”
Thank you
Rossi thanked the clubs that welcomed him, from Parma to Manchester United, from Villarreal to Fiorentina, in his latest experiences between Genoa and SPAL, the Serie B club where he played the second half of last season and ended up being relegated to Serie C.
“I will miss football, but I know it’s time to move on to the next chapter.”Rossi concluded with the hashtag #PepitoOut.
