Party leaders in the picture – Kickl firmly in the saddle, still defiant for Babler

Date:

A recent investigation shows: FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl remains untouched despite internal debates. SPÖ boss Andreas Babler has yet to raise for the “turnaround”.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) has successfully filled the summer crisis with a number of questionable topics. He is untouchable in his ÖVP. But what about the leaders of the other two traditional parties?

Kickl sits firmly in the saddle
FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl encountered opposition from his own ranks (Salzburg and Upper Austria) in the politicians’ remuneration debate. A current investigation by IFDD comes to the conclusion: Kickl is still firmly in the saddle. In total, 56 percent of the 800 respondents see it that way. It is even 75 percent among FPÖ voters, only 12 percent think that he is not undisputed.

‘Babler must perform in the 2024 elections’
What about the leader of the Reds? Here only 30 percent believe that the SPÖ will work with him to make the turnaround – ie the way to the top. After all, he knows how to convince 72 percent of the SPÖ clientele. “Given the resistance of the last few months, that’s very good, he can build on that,” says IFDD boss Christoph Haselmayer.

However, to be successful in elections, Babler must also be attractive off the beaten track. At NEOS, especially at Greens. With topics such as wealth tax, he will hardly raise pink layers. “For Kickl, on the other hand, everything is ready,” says pollster Haselmayer. Leading in all polls, internally undisputed. Nevertheless, “He has to perform in the 2024 elections. Otherwise things could quickly become uncomfortable.”
