With regard to the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (TDEH) to uphold the conviction of the Spanish state for the “Atristain case” after it violated its right to a fair trial, Etxerat appreciates for “the measure taken and that he has been denied the source”, presented by the prosecutor.
“We now hope that this measure will be applied to all prisoners who are in a similar situation,” said Vélez, acknowledging that Etxerat’s lawyers are working on it: “A new path has been opened and we hope that progress can be made. that this measure is applied in all similar cases and that they receive compensation”.
Similarly, Etxerat has reminded that there are “186 Basque political prisoners prison”of which “nearly twenty are over 65 years of age and a total of 19 suffering from serious illnesses”.
“The number of 32 political exiles and deportees continues and they continue without being able to return. There is no sign of the will to turn the page for good… A total of 85 prisoners have not yet been approached; 168 prisoners should be on leave and only 22 do; 132 inmates should be in third grade, but only 14 are,” she added.
