The minister visited the cooperative Oihan Txiki de Orexa on the occasion of the primary sector day, where she explained that the Basque government is providing exceptional financial support of 10 million euros to contribute to the profitability of companies in the sector.
The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment, Arantxa Tapia, defended the Basque agricultural model, based on family farming, because it is “sustainable, respects the environment, cares for and cares about the environment”. In this line, he appreciates that family farming “provides local, healthy and quality products and contributes to the preservation of our gastronomic culture”.
On the occasion of the celebration of San Isidro, Tapia, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Policy, Bittor Oroz, visited the facilities of the sheep sector cooperative Ohian Txikilocated in the municipality of Orexa in Guipuzcoan.
During the visit, the minister made a statement in defense of the Basque agricultural and livestock model, based on family farming. “This is a sustainable model, respecting the environment, caring for and caring for the environment, because it’s key to managing the area,” he said.
For this reason, he has asked the public to “appreciate local products and consume local products”.
Support for the increase in fuel prices

15,487 companies registered in the CAV
15,487 companies are registered in the Basque Country, of which 11,249 are livestock farms. In addition, nearly 5000 people are professionally committed to agricultural activity.
Seven years ago, the Basque government passed the law on the status of women farmers, a pioneer in the Spanish state. Following this line, this year it will earmark 60,000 euros to promote equality between women and men in the primary sector. Activities to protect health at work and against gender-based violence will also be funded, as well as education and training for women farmers.

The Ohian Txiki Cheese Factory is a cooperative company that has been producing DO Idiazábal cheese at its facilities in Orexa for over 30 years. It is currently diversifying its production and expanding its range with new cheeses such as Urdiña and Otzara. These are high quality cheeses made with milk certified with the Eusko Label seal, traditional varieties recovered under the “Euskal Gazta” project.
