It has been three years since a secretly recorded video blew up the government of the ÖVP-FPÖ: In Ibiza, an alcohol- and testosterone-pregnant Heinz-Christian Strache told the niece of an alleged oligarch against the blue sky. In the documentary “Mr. Strache drives to Ibiza – back to the end”, which will be broadcast on PULS 24 on Tuesday at 8:15 pm, the former FPÖ leader is confronted with his statements – in the finca where it all started.
“It’s not the living room we were in” – Strache’s memory of the July evening in 2017 is as absent as the insight that he said something politically reprehensible at the time, as his first words upon entering the finca show. how it feels After three years you should have come to terms with the events, he tells Corinna Milborn. Still, the video was “a complete reorganization of my life in every way”.
Strache hasn’t changed his mind since then, as “Back to the End” shows. He still believes in the plot and claims to have actually distanced himself from possible corruption that night instead of fantasizing about it. “In retrospect, stepping down as party leader was a mistake,” he says again. And the legend also wants to fuel Strache with the auction of his legendary T-shirt – for a good cause, of course.
But not only Strache speaks in the 50-minute documentary, but also the brain behind the video, Julian Hessenthaler. He once again denies that the “main characters” of the video, Strache and his then-party friend Johann Gudenus, secretly administered drugs – which Strache still suspects. And he says that before the secret shoot, Gudenus would have expressed his fears about a video trap.
