Excitement of the season – money, love, tattoos: that was the political summer

Date:

A love story across national and party boundaries, an old kiss and the ‘normal’ question filled the summer slump.

Summer was hot, not only in terms of weather. Bikini photos also graced the political pages. The love story of the head of the Tyrolean SPÖ and deputy governor Georg Dornauer with the Trentino parliamentarian of the right-wing party Fratelli d’Italia, Alessia Ambrosi, was one of the top stories of this summer. A kiss between former Greens leader Eva Glawischnig and FPÖ party leader Herbert Kickl when they were at school together also made headlines.

Babeler “dive into the crowd” several times.
There was a lot of negative reaction to an advertising campaign by the Ministry of Climate Protection, where you could get your climate card tattooed at festivals and get it for free for a year. The new SPÖ boss Andreas Babler was seen at many festivals. He has decided to visit all 94 districts of Austria and is on the road all summer. Lower Austrian provincial governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) sparked the biggest political debate by saying she represented “normal thinkers”. Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) responded with violent words and even described the statements as “pre-fascistoid”.

However, the summer months were not completely empty. The bankruptcy of kika/Leiner after the sale of the furniture store by René Benko’s Signa Group led to numerous political reactions. The FPÖ and SPÖ in particular fired at the investor close to the ÖVP, demanding both legislative changes and an investigative committee. Both opposition parties also raised the issue of fighting inflation and convened the National Council for a special session.

The cash debate provoked emotions
The cash debate was driven by the ÖVP, which demanded that cash be enshrined in the constitution. This in turn led to a duel between the ÖVP and the FPÖ over who copied whom. At the end of the summer theater, we recommend going to the cinema. Two documentaries about ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz will be released soon.
