Do locals in particular take to the streets and protest for the climate? Or where do the activists actually come from? Tyrolean FPÖ national councilor Peter Wurm demanded details about the blockers from Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP). This shows that these were people from all over the world.
Who are these climate protectors, fighters, gluers or whatever you should call them, who have already driven more than enough motorists crazy on Monday morning? Just in time for the start of school, they blocked Tiroler Straße in Rum, near the new train station. Both directions were closed. The result: traffic jams towards the capital and Hall’s commercial zone – neither of which has certainly helped save the climate.
46 advertisements in the promotional week of June
On the part of the population, solidarity with the blockers is decreasing, but anger is increasing. Above all, anger about the passivity of politicians. For this reason, Tyrolean FPÖ National Council member Peter Wurm asked Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) a few questions. Namely with regard to the “week of action” in June, in which attempts were made (sometimes successfully) to paralyze Innsbruck for five days.
The answers are available to the “Krone” and are always interesting. This shows that 46 activists of the last generation were reported during this ‘week of action’ in Tyrol. There were administrative reports under the Assembly Act, the Road Traffic Act and a report under Article 176 of the Criminal Code (danger to life and limb of a large number of people or to other people’s property).
“What is particularly exciting and interesting is the list of citizenships of these reported activists,” researcher Wurm emphasizes. Answer from Interior Minister Karner: “They were Belgian, German, Italian, Luxembourgish and Austrian nationals.”
Meetings not announced or shown
A total of twelve different locations were blocked during this ‘action week’. “Were these actions announced in advance to the public or the security authorities?” Wurm also wanted to know and received the response: “The meetings were not announced or reported in advance.” The response to the question also shows that while the actions led to traffic delays, they generally lasted less than two hours.
For police tactical reasons: no details
Finally, the Tyrolean FPÖ-NR Wurm wanted to know whether the organization Last Generation and its activities are under the supervision of the security authorities. If yes, what are the previous results and if no, why not?
As expected, there was a standard answer. “For police tactical reasons we must refrain from answering this question. The disclosure of such detailed information could endanger the future fulfillment of the duties of the state security authorities and could be contrary to the external and internal security interests of the Republic of Austria,” the Deputy Minister said in a reserved manner.
