The mayor of Derio will therefore take over from Gorka Urtaran in the general meeting on the 19th. The vice presidents will be Nagore Alkorta, first mayor of Azpeitia, and José Antonio Santano, councilor of Irún.
The mayor of Derio, Esther Apraiz, will become the new president of EUDEL and will thus take over Gorka Urtaran’s duties at the general meeting on the 19th, as EITB has learned. Precisely, today the deadline for submitting applications for the presidency of the Association of Basque Municipalities expired, and EH Bildu had given up on a candidacy. Esther Apraiz Fernández de la Peña (Derio, 1976) has been mayor of Derio since 2015. She previously served as a councilor in the field of Urban Planning between 2011 and 2015.
According to the agreement reached, the nationalist mayor of Derio, Esther Apraiz, will be elected president of the Association of Basque Municipalities at the meeting of the next Tuesday. The candidacy led by Apraiz is the result of an agreement reached yesterday Monday by EAJ-PNV, EH Bildu and PSE-EE and to which independent groups have joined.
The Mayor of Azpeitia, Nagore Alkorta (EH Bildu), and the councilor of Irún, José Antonio Santano (PSE-EE), will join Apraiz as vice-presidents of the entity, positions they already hold today.
The rest of the candidacy consists of Yeltzal mayors Nati López de Muniain (Elburgo), Maialen Gurrutxaga (Elgoibar), Jon Luqui Albisu (Urretxu), Erlantz Urresti (Maruri Jatabe) and Txerra Molinuevo (Amurrio); for EH Bildu, the candidacy includes, together with the aforementioned Nagore Alkorta (Azpeitia), Iñigo Hernando (Galdakao), Txelo Auzmendi (Asparrena), Xabier Lertxundi (Hernani), Eneritz Azpitarte (Zaldibar) and Izaro Elorza (Oñati); Mikel Torres (Portugalete), representing the Basque Socialists, will lead together with José Antonio Santano (Irún); and the councilor of the independent group ‘Zalla Bai’ Joseba Andoni Zorrilla Ruiz closed the proposal.
The 245 EUDEL partner municipalities will on Tuesday renew their administrative bodies, both the Executive Commission (fifteen representatives) and the Territorial Commissions of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa (nine representatives each).
