A technical problem has halted the travel plans of Federal President Alexender Van der Bellen. According to information from the “Krone”, his flight to New York was canceled at short notice – but the reason for this was not the hurricane that apparently raged off the American coast, but a broken AUA plane.
Together with his Slovenian counterpart Nataša Pirc Musar, Van der Bellen was actually scheduled to depart on Saturday at 10.10 am with Austrian Airlines for the UN General Assembly in New York – “suddenly cancelled”, the “Krone” learned.
Initially it was said that they wanted to fly around the storm or take a different route over Canada. But it was probably the shortage of long-distance aircraft that caused problems for the Federal President and his associates.
The “presidential plane” had to be repaired first, it was said, and had to return on the flight to Chicago on Friday – and the AUA did not have a spare plane. New planes won’t arrive until January.
So we had to rebook. The Federal President will now arrive a little later via Montreal.
