In order to keep this rule, the Socialist Group decided on Wednesday to withdraw the amendment regarding prostitution to the ‘only if it’s yes’ law in order to keep this rule, so it will presumably go through in the Equality Commission despite the vote against the PP.

This has been confirmed by socialist sources, who warn that “the Ministry of Equality and United We Can were responsible for concluding these negotiations, not the PSOE”.

Sectors of United We Can had expressed dissatisfaction with the PSOE’s stance on the Sexual Freedom Guarantee Act, known as the “only yes is yes” law, recognizing that the amendment made by their partner about prostitution was promoted causing uncertainty about processing.

For example, the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, claimed to be “quite concerned”. Asked by reporters in the corridors of Congress, the secretary has indicated that her department has been proposing to political groups “for months” the possibility to agree on drafting the law in what has to do with “the fight against the pimp industry.” and the guarantee of women’s rights in contexts of prostitution”.

Socialist sources have indicated that they made this decision because there are groups that have carried out an “exercise of responsibility” because they want this law to be enacted, but they are not in favor of tackling the debate on prostitution now .

It’s about the amendment 184 of the PSOE with which this group defended that it strengthened the fight against pimp in the law of only yes is yes in the absence of agreement with the allies of the government, several of whom are in favor of the freedom of women who engage in prostitution.

These articles penalize non-coercive (non-violent) pimps and also those who profit from the rental of premises intended to promote the exploitation of prostitution (the locative third party).

PP sources link the PSOE’s decision to pressure from its ruling partner in Congress, because once the popular supported that change, the allies of Pedro Sánchez’s inauguration threatened to reverse it.

However, minutes after the commission started, the PP announced that it would also reject the advice.
