Voglauer (Greens): – Cost driver for climate protection? – “Just a legend!”

Date:

Olga Voglauer has been general secretary of the Greens for almost six months. The party’s specific goal: “Create climate prosperity.” Next year there will also be 11 percent more money from the federal budget. The road is good: CO2 emissions are currently “as low as they were last in 1990.” The recently concluded renewable heat package is “a milestone”, even if the ÖVP had to give in. Did you let yourself be rocked? No, says Voglauer: “We simply could no longer get along with the ÖVP.”

So they focused on the steps “that were possible.” She understands the criticism from well-known NGOs who describe the package as a “serious setback”. Yet I don’t have to hide: “Other countries are jealous of us because of this financing package. People should be able to afford a warm apartment.” The package must take care of this.

Next stop: “Climate prosperity”
Voglauer is not bothered by ‘hypocritical discussions’ about the climate past. And not about the “legend that everything becomes more expensive with climate protection.” According to the Green politician, that is simply wrong. The specific goal is “climate prosperity”. With the increased climate budget, “movements must now continue to be supported and new directions must be charted.”

“There is not only the Climate Protection Act”
In any case, they do not want their government work to be talked down to: ‘Under us Greens, CO2 emissions were reduced to 1990 levels.’ What, according to Voglauer, ‘wouldn’t exist’ without the Greens in government: good public transport or support for industry. However, some points in the government program are still open: there is still a climate protection law to be introduced, but “there is not only a climate protection law”.

Don’t be afraid of Chancellor Kickl
The question of whether the government coalition consisting of the ÖVP and the Greens is still viable has been asked for three years, Voglauer said. She is convinced: “Good compromises have been reached under the coalition” – despite the Covid crisis, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. She is certainly not afraid of Chancellor Kickl.

You can see in the video above what chances the Greens have for the next National Council elections, whether the black-green federal government is doing enough to combat the increasing number of femicides and what position the Greens have in the conflict in the Central East.
