After harsh criticism – Rauch: With energy bonus “something will come on top”

Date:

Opposition parties have been shouting for weeks that the federal government is not doing enough to counter the massive price increases, especially in the energy sector. Negotiations by the black-green coalition on an anti-inflation package continue this weekend. Social Affairs Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) promised “significant” improvements to the energy bonus that had already been established.

“Yes, that is being improved and tightened up. There will definitely be something there,” Rauch said in response to a similar question in an interview with ATV. In addition, the new package should include an adjustment of aid to inflation.

Minister of Property Taxes
“This applies to all transfer benefits, from child benefit to unemployment benefits, then healthcare allowance and what state transfers there are, where people simply notice that the money is worth less,” promises the Minister of Social Affairs. Again, he favors wealth taxes to fund government spending due to the pandemic and inflation.

Government parties slip in polls
Meanwhile, a survey by the opinion polling institute Unique Research for the current news magazine ‘profil’ shows that the majority is dissatisfied with the government’s performance on inflation. When asked which party had the best anti-inflation concept, only seven percent of respondents answered the ÖVP, five percent the Greens.

Only twelve percent trust that the government will come up with the best concept. 20 percent called the SPÖ, 14 percent the FPÖ and six percent the NEOS. 36 percent said no party had the best concept. Multiple entries were possible. 800 people were surveyed, the fluctuation range is plus/minus 3.5 percent.
