In the upcoming elections for the Chamber of Labor in Vienna, the NEOS will enter the race for the first time – with Fritz Grams as its top candidate. The 54-year-old sales employee was presented on Tuesday by state manager Jacqueline Löschel. According to his own statements, he has been working for the Vienna NEOS for more than ten years. He rejects mandatory membership of the Chamber of Labor. As a first step, contributions should be at least halved, Grams said.
After ‘intensive discussions’ it was decided to participate in the elections, Löschel reported. “The Chamber of Labor is doing a lot of good things,” she said, explaining the pink participation in the vote that will take place in Vienna in April. She referred to the various counseling services available. At the same time, she did not shy away from criticism. The AK has developed into a ‘political frontline organization’ from which many ‘questionable’ statements emerge.
‘Real control’ instead of ‘forced membership’
Löschel also found that product tests, such as vegan carnival donuts, were not in line with the tasks. They criticize “forced membership” and want to exercise “real control”. The Chamber of Labor must become more contemporary and also help shape changes in working life.
Fritz Grams echoed the same sentiments. Compulsory membership no longer makes sense in the 21st century. He advocated an “opt-out option”. The NEOS candidate also spoke in favor of halving the levy – this could be done as a first step even before mandatory membership ends, he said. Grams also spoke in favor of setting up a so-called education account for members, with which further training could be followed, instead of issuing education vouchers.
