The financial inconsistencies in the Economic Association and the corruption allegations against Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) cast back Vorarlberg’s ÖVP in Sunday’s issue. However, the opposition is not in the fast lane. That’s according to a recent Gallup poll.
If Vorarlberg’s state parliament were elected on Sunday, the ÖVP would still have 32 percent of the vote, which would be four percentage points less than in April. In 2019, the People’s Party had won 43.5 percent in the last state elections. The FPÖ (April 17; 2019: 13.9), Greens (April 15; 2019: 18.9), SPÖ (April 12; April 12; 2019: 9.5) and NEOS (April 11; April 11; 2019: 8 ,5), however, would not benefit excessively. MFG, which did not exist in 2019, would currently have 7 percent of the vote (April 6).
The sample size was 500 individuals in both April and May, and the fluctuation range was given as a maximum of 5.1 percentage points.
ÖVP would still lead in elections
Despite the loss of votes, it would still not be possible to get past the ÖVP in such an election result. “The voters are disappointed, but they do not feel that they absolutely want to continue with another party,” political scientist Kathrin Stainer-Hämmerle interpreted the figures of the survey on behalf of “Vorarlberger Nachrichten”.
The poll results showed that no other party gets the top spot. She judged the action of the Greens around the ÖVP affair as rather weak, in the SPÖ “everything is still unclear”. The FPÖ was also further damaged by Ibiza and other discussions at the federal level.
