From Monday afternoon, the social partners of the metal technology industry will meet for the sixth time to agree on wage increases from November 1 this year. If the talks do not lead to success, there is a risk of the ‘biggest work stoppages in a long time’.
The last meeting for the time being last Thursday was interrupted after more than six hours. The employers then saw a rapprochement, the employers objected and threatened a “mass strike” if no agreement was reached on Monday.
“It’s good. No deal on Monday will lead to the biggest work stoppages in a long time,” said unions GPA and PRO-GE.
WiFi expert: Things are going well for employers anyway
Strike statistics in the metal sector show two major work stoppages in the recent past: in 2011 there were strikes in approximately 200 companies with 100,000 employees and in 2018 in more than 240 companies with more than 70,000 employees.
The Wifo expert Benjamin Bittschi told the APA that employers were already well served by the ‘Benya formula’ demanded by the unions, as it applied the overall economic productivity increase and not that of industrial production, which was higher.
