The explosive audio documents of Christian Pilnacek, the head of the legal department, have caused a real earthquake in domestic politics. But how did the secret recordings come about? An ex-BZÖ man on whose leg Pilnacek had “peed” took him in… The “Krone” knows the details.
It is Tuesday evening, 7:30 PM – a rumor has been circulating on the political scene for hours that a secretly recorded tape of Christian Pilnacek’s political reports would emerge (“Krone” and ORF published the most important passages). Pilnacek’s best friend is in the Italian Il Cavalluccio, the restaurant in the city center where the eavesdropping took place in the middle of the summer.
Eavesdropping trap on the noble Italian
The German businessman eagerly follows the ‘ZIB 1’ news on his mobile phone. For the past two years, he has met with the fallen section chief three to four times a week in the evenings and was also there that summer evening when Pilnacek fell into the eavesdropping trap. It was a larger group, like those that often took place in fancy Italian restaurants.
The friend reports that the Lower Austrian Christian M., a former BZÖ man, took Pilnacek into his home at the end of July. The reason he gave to Pilnacek’s best friend was that the ex-section chief Pilnacek “had once urinated in the BZÖ man’s leg, that’s why he wanted to take him in.” For a possible return coach?
No “material” for an act of revenge
The secret tape recording of about 90 minutes did not lend itself to revenge against Pilnacek, because the former section head portrayed himself as a sincere justice who repelled the ÖVP’s attempts to intervene.
The background of the ex-BZÖ man is exciting. In 2016 he was still involved as spokesperson for the Association for the Protection of the Austrian Slot Machine Industry – so it’s about the gambling industry.
