Politically noted – Innsbruck elections: Anzengruber presents list names

Date:

The election campaign in the Tyrolean capital has already started a long time ago. The deputy mayor and former ÖVP member of Innsbruck, Johannes Anzengruber, and municipal councilor Mariella Lutz presented the new name of Anzengruber’s list on Thursday. Meanwhile, there is disagreement about the 50 percent limit in the 2024 budget.

The former ÖVP politician and deputy mayor Johannes Anzengruber presented his new list name together with GR Mariella Lutz, independent of any party. It consists of his initials: “Yes – Now Innsbruck”.

Things are not going well for Anzengruber
About two months ago he announced that he would run for mayor in Innsbruck, after it became known that State Secretary Florian Tursky would run for the ÖVP. Since then, things have not exactly gone smoothly for the deputy: on the one hand, the Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption is investigating the politician on suspicion of giving and accepting benefits when handing out the “Tyrol Adventure Cards”.

On the other hand, a motion to vote out of office, submitted by his former political homeland, the ÖVP, is on the agenda of the December city council: Anzengruber should be removed from his position as deputy mayor.

“Content before party politics”
Anzengruber has not yet been able to present a team for his list. ‘White’ was chosen as the color, a colorful asterisk – i.e. a small star – adorns the list name and is intended to reflect the diversity of Innsbruck’s inhabitants. The BM candidate once again emphasized that he wanted to put content above party politics and focus primarily on the individual districts.

Fuss about the 50 percent clause
There is commotion about the planned 50 percent block in the Innsbruck budget for 2024: this would mean that initially only half of the budgeted amounts could be spent. Mayor and financial officer Georg Willi (Greens) has asked the state supervisory authority for an explanation. It has now arrived: she believes that a 50 percent cut in budget cuts is disproportionate.

Mayor Willi is now calling on the city council to give in. In an initial response, the ÖVP and FPÖ expressed their willingness to allow the 50 percent block to expire automatically on May 31, 2024 – after the municipal and mayoral elections.
