Once again there is a fuss about the chairman of the National Council! As announced on Wednesday, the Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption is calling for the immunity of Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) to be lifted in order to investigate him.
A corresponding request has been submitted to the House, reports “profil” online. The case concerns a tax case in which former Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, Thomas Schmid, allegedly submitted incriminating correspondence. Sobotka protests his innocence and wants to be ‘extradited’.
Once again it is about the Erwin Pröll Foundation
The case concerns an audit of the (now defunct) Erwin Pröll Foundation. According to Schmid’s story, Sobotka would have intervened with him here. The Public Prosecution Service said at the end of November that there had been attempted abuse of office.
Sobotka wants to “support everything”
The chairman of the National Council strongly denies this. His office told “profil” that the allegations were false and should be rejected in the strongest possible terms.
Sobotka will therefore “support anything that leads to a quick clarification and ask the Immunity Committee of the National Council to fulfill the extradition request as soon as possible so that the authorities can finally clarify the facts.”
