Stakeholders – call for closure of Slovenian Krsko nuclear power plant

Date:

All five parliamentary groups in the National Council have called for the closure of Slovenia’s Krsko nuclear power plant due to massive safety problems.

In a motion passed on Friday, MPs unanimously expressed support for the federal government in its efforts to decommission the nuclear power plant. Martin Litschauer, anti-nuclear spokesman for the Green Party, welcomed the decision.

Danger “for all of Europe”
The Krsko nuclear power plant “is outdated and must finally be closed. The Slovenian operator is acting negligently and endangering the safety not only of the Slovenian people, but of the whole of Europe,” Litschauer said on Saturday.

Nuclear power plant only recently thoroughly inspected
The reactor recently had to be shut down due to a leak. “The question arises as to how thoroughly the nuclear power plant was checked if the next accident occurs a few months later.”
