As for the principles of the pact, they include promoting a “solid and modern” municipal government, promoting citizen participation, improving the living conditions of all citizens and supporting the Basque language.
Abbotsanitz And EH Bildu have reached an agreement to govern the Hondarribia (Gipuzkoa) Municipal Council as a coalition, led so far by this first formation. In this way, EH Bildu councilor Garoa Lekuona will strengthen the government team as second deputy mayor and also take on the Basque Country and Environment portfolios.
Abotsanitz was founded as a party in 2015 as a result of an internal crisis within the left of Abertzale, prompted by differences compared to the Hondarribia Showoff. Nevertheless, the pro-independence coalition was decisive for Abotsanitz to take over the city’s mayoral office after the May elections and wrest control of the council from the PNV after 28 consecutive years of Yeltzal governments.
Both parties will now govern the council thanks to the agreement they made public on Tuesday, in which they assure that, differences aside, it is time to meeting points and broad agreements supported by dialogue and constructive debate.
In terms of the principles of the pact, it includes promoting a “solid and modern” municipal government, promoting citizen participation, improving the living conditions of all citizens and supporting the Basque language.
In the last elections on May 28, Abotsanitz got seven councilors, while the PNV got six, the PSE-EE two and EH Bildu another two.
