Nothing stands in the way of the abolition of official secrecy. The SPÖ casts votes for a two-thirds law.
The government factions have agreed with the SPÖ on the final details. The Social Democrats claim some successes in the negotiations.
This now means that all administrative bodies will have to provide information in the future, regardless of their legal form.
The gaps have also been closed among state-owned companies: not only companies with more than 50 percent formal state ownership will have to provide information in the future, but also companies that are actually controlled by the state.
The SPÖ’s constitutional spokesman, Jörg Leichtfried, told the Crown he was pleased that the outdated official secrecy was finally being abolished. “The only downside is that the governing parties have insisted that communities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants only have to publish information upon request and not proactively.”
The law will be adopted in January and enter into force in the summer of 2025.
