Joseba Asirón (EH Bildu) was elected mayor of Pamplona on Thursday during the plenary session of the city council, where the motion of censure to the mayor of the city, Cristina Ibarrola (UPN).
In an extraordinary plenary session of good expectationInside and outside the City Hall, Asiron has obtained the 15 votes of the majority consisting of EH Bildu (8 councilors), PSN (4 votes pending the takeover of the fifth mayor), Geroa Bai (2) and Contigo-Zurekin (1) , while UPN (9) and PP (2) voted against.
The EH Bildu candidate is the new mayor of Pamplona after winning the first motion of censure in the democratic period in the council of the capital of Navarra.
In this way, the motion agreed upon by EH Bildu and PSN, and to which Geroa Bai and Contigo-Zurekin have also joined, expelled Cristina Ibarrola, from UPN, from the mayor’s office.
Cristina Ibarrola He arrived at the mayor’s office last June and claimed the status of the most voted UPN list in the May municipal elections. During the investiture session, the PSN abstained and there was no alternative majority for Ibarrola.
However, after half a year, the Socialists and EH Bildu made public an agreement on December 13 to submit a motion of censure.
In this way, Joseba Asiron returns to the mayor’s office of Pamplona, a position he already held in the 2015-2019 legislature. At that time, the PSN’s support was not necessary as Asiron won a majority with the support of EH Bildu, Geroa Bai, Aranzadi and Izquierda-Ezkerra.
Cristina Ibarrola declared during her turn that the debate is the “end of this macabre work titled ‘Betrayal of Pamplona’ and without surprise with an ending written six months ago.” “Today PSN gives Bildu a great prize that it has long desired and that allows Pedro Sánchez to remain in the chair,” he assured.
Neither Asiron nor EH Bildu’s spokesperson intervened in the debate.
The PSN spokesperson, Marina Curiel, has stated that Ibarrola “has carried out an arrogant, one-sided, opaque political action completely unrelated to listening and dialogue, constantly downplaying the rest of the political forces, despite being in the minority.” “They never wanted to reach an agreement, which hindered the city’s progress. They have not been able to approve budgets, they have not presented draft budgets,” he criticized.
PPN councilor Carlos García Adanero told the spokespersons who did not intervene that “they are ashamed to speak, because they know they have to thank Sánchez and that Madrid will become mayor, with everything they said about Madrid.” “In return, they give Sánchez the presidency of the government. It’s normal for them to be happy. Sánchez has whitewashed EH Bildu for four years and today is the culmination of that whitewashing. In return, they gave him the presidency,” he indicated. .
Geroa councilor Bai has asked that “we avoid being disqualified towards the political opponent.” Let us not confront Pamplona with Iruña or Iruña with Pamplona, let us live together in peace. “It is an important day for our city, we are talking about change, progress, an Iruña that deserves to advance, prosper and emerge from the paralysis of the past four years and six months,” he noted.
Contigo-Zurekin spokesperson Txema Mauleón has stated that “thanks to the agreement of all progressive forces, we are going to form a new government, with a new program, with a new urban project that you – on the right – will understand well. know and who, by the way, have not criticized a single comma all these days and look how they have spoken.
