Congress will vote this week on the government’s first decrees of the year, which still do not have the support of the Junts

Date:

The hearing will take place on Wednesday. The decrees include the increase of pensions, the reduction of VAT on food, support for transport and the tax on large fortunes. The PSOE takes majority support for granted. It remains to be seen what Podemos will do.

With the arrival of the new year comes the first problem for the Pedro Sánchez government in the Congress of Deputies. And the first decrees approved by the Council of Ministers must now pass through Congress and receive the approval of the majority of deputies. The session will take place on Wednesday and at the moment they do not have the support of Junts.

However, the Socialists assume that the decrees will be approved. Patxi López, spokesperson for the PSOE in Congress, stated this Sunday that they are in “continuous and discreet” talks with the Junts:

Patxi López: ”It would not be understandable if someone who supported a progressive government did not support progressive measures”

Patxi López: ''It would not be understandable if someone who supported a progressive government did not support progressive measures''
Patxi López: ”It would not be understandable if someone who supported a progressive government did not support progressive measures”

But Puigdemont’s party is not the only obstacle to overcome. In fact, the five Podemos deputies who left Sumar to join the Mixed Group could also cause problems if the unemployment benefits reform led to a reduction in pension contributions for people over 52 years old.

These decrees include increasing pensions, reducing VAT on food, supporting transport and maintaining taxes on large fortunes.
