Green MEP Sarah Wiener will no longer participate in the European elections in June. “For me, 2024 is a new beginning and the opportunity to take new paths. “I will no longer stand as a candidate for the EU Parliament in the coming legislature,” Wiener announced on Tuesday.
The German-born former TV chef ran as a candidate for the Austrian Green Party in 2019 and was elected as an MP. She was most recently a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development. She now emphasizes at the end of the parliamentary term that she felt valued and welcome in the Green EU group in Brussels and Strasbourg.
Cooking with children and “being in charge of my colorful life again”
Wiener wants to focus more intensively on her charity foundation in the future. This has become Germany’s largest nutrition initiative and has already taught approximately 1.25 million children to cook. “I will also resume one or two of the activities from before my time as a politician and look forward to becoming a master of the colorful life I have created.”
She is also hopeful about the future on a large scale: “I am convinced that in the end the good and right things will prevail. In these times we need an alliance of sensible people who listen to science and pursue a sustainable vision for people, nature and animals that takes into account who we are and who we want to be,” were Wiener’s words as he said goodbye of politics. .
