Finance Minister Magnus Brunner had a very bad start to the new year. The ÖVP politician drove his company car far too fast in Vorarlberg and now has to surrender his driving license for a few weeks.
As the “Kurier” reported, the incident happened last Saturday. Brunner is said to have significantly exceeded the speed limit in an 80 zone. The Ministry of Finance did not want to say how many km/h the ÖVP minister had exceeded the limit. One thing is certain: Brunner has now lost his license for four weeks.
No alcohol test was performed
In a written statement, Brunner apologized. According to his office, he was on his way to a private meeting and had overlooked a temporary speed limit. The incident happened outside the region. Brunner was traveling in his official BMW 7 Series, which ministers can also use privately. No alcohol test was carried out due to the time of day and because, according to the ministry, there were no relevant suspicions.
A driver’s license will be revoked for four weeks if the speed limit outside the local area is exceeded by at least 50 km/h.
