“Necessary partner”-EU citizens assess Trump-Comeback rather negative

The Times of the Close Transatlantic Alliance seem to be over: only 21 percent of EU citizens see the United States as allies, show an overview of the European Council for Foreign Relations (EFCR) that was published on Wednesday. Accordingly, 50 percent of the surveyed in eleven EU countries describe the United States as a “necessary partner”. Opinions differ considerably in terms of the evaluation of the Donald Trump comeback.

The opinion in the leading EU countries Germany and France is particularly crucial. There, 17 and 16 percent of the respondents refers to the United States as “rivals” with which one has to compete. The most positive attitude is in Poland, where 31 percent see the United States as allies, followed by Denmark (30 percent), Estonia (28 percent) and Hungary (27 percent). But even in these countries, important relative majorities only see the United States as a “necessary partner”. Even in the UK (44 percent), although 37 percent of the respondents are still allocates.

Trump of voters from the right parties seen positively
The citizens of European countries see the question of whether Donald Trump’s return to the White House is a “good” or “bad” thing. The biggest fans are available in Hungary, where 47 percent of the respondents consider the Trump -Comepack as good for their country. On the other side of the spectrum are the Danes who expect 66 percent negative effects for their country. On the European average, however, Trump’s second term is rather negative.

In the survey, the preferences of voters of right -wing populist parties were also evaluated individually. Accordingly, consider less than one fifth of the voters of Fidesz, Pis, Confederacja and Fratelli d’Italia Trump’s re -election to a bad thing. The voters of the AfD and wide emblems are more critical of the national and 35 percent of the opinion that Trump’s return is bad for their country.

Ukraine war: majority expected a compromise
Regarding the Ukraine War, the opinion is clear on the continent: a clear majority expects a compromise solution everywhere than the victory of one of the two parties in the war. This also applies to states that are firmly on the side of Ukraine, such as Estonia. Even in Ukraine, only 34 percent of the respondents believe in a victory of their own country, while 47 percent expect a compromise solution. On the other side of the scale are the Hungarians, who expect 28 percent victory from aggressor Russia.

Bulgarians and Hungary see Russia as a ‘partner’
Russia has considerable support for the population of some EU countries. Relative majorities in Bulgaria (41 percent), Hungary (37 percent) and Italy (28 percent) see Russia as a “necessary partner”, in the other countries the assessment dominates that the country is an “opponent” (EU -out: 44 Percentage) works -with the largest relationships in Denmark (74 percent), Estonia (67 percent), Poland (62 percent) and Germany (60 percent).

The opinion in Italy and France could have a negative influence on the EU efforts of Ukraine, whereby 50 or 47 percent of the respondents find that the country is not part of Europe. The Europeans are shared in terms of China: 43 percent of the respondents see the country as a “necessary partner” or “allies” of the EU, 35 percent as “rivals” or “opponents”.

The majority of Bulgaren expects the EU decline
The answers to the survival of the European Union are also remarkable. Two fifth of the respondents consider it “very” or “nice” probably that the European Union will decrease in the next 20 years. In Bulgaria, 52 percent of these are the opinion, followed by France (41 percent), Hungary (40 percent) and Germany (39 percent). The most optimistic are the respondents in Denmark, where only 17 percent expect an EU.

The survey was conducted in November in 14 European countries (the EU countries Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Hungary, as well as Great -Britain, Switzerland and Ukraine) 18.507, that were representative of the respective citizens older than 18 years.
