Dominik Wlazny, also known as ‘Marco Pogo’ and chairman of the Beer Party, invited people on Thursday for a ‘statement on the occasion of the upcoming National Council elections’. He would probably have to explain his party’s entry as there had been no decision yet.
However, this was not officially confirmed on Tuesday. The latest polls give the party – should it become a candidate – a chance to overcome the four percent hurdle.
Will the beer party enter parliament?
The Beer Party, founded in 2015, stood as a candidate in the 2019 National Council elections, but only in Vienna, and clearly missed access to parliament at the time. As of 2020, the Beer Party has had eleven district councilors in Vienna, but missed out on entry to the state parliament with 1.8 percent of the vote.
This time it could look different: The rock musician Wlazny has received more attention since the election as Federal President in 2022. At the time, he came third with 8.31 percent behind Alexander van der Bellen and the FPÖ candidate Walter Rosenkranz.
