The current mood among young people is characterized by several crises. This leads to a feeling of powerlessness and a loss of confidence in politics, as Rebekka Dober, founder of the social enterprise YEP – Voice of the Youth, explains in an interview with Jürgen Winterleitner on krone.tv: “Only 17 percent currently have trust in politics. Politicians lose their credibility.”
In an interview on krone.tv, Dober calls for young people to be taken seriously as experts in their own reality of life and to be integrated into participation processes: “Really very few young people still believe in democracy. Only 15 percent believe that young people are actually represented by politicians.”
“Take young people seriously!”
According to Dober, the current mood among young people is being weighed down by several crises, such as the climate crisis, the mental health crisis, the crisis of democracy and many other crises. Young people suffer from a feeling of powerlessness, which in turn leads to loss of confidence in politics. In the krone.tv conversation, social entrepreneur Dober appeals to politicians: “Take young people seriously, take your voice seriously and take them seriously not just as youth, but as the future, because that is you!”
According to Dober, the challenges for the future professional world for young people are great, because there is often uncertainty about possible careers and a lack of guidance in schools: “For example, 60 percent say that they feel completely underprepared for their financial future.”
